Conditions Treated Using Traditional Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have a long history of often being deeply helpful in treating pain conditions. Chris’ goal is always to treat the root cause of the pain rather than just treat symptoms so you can be pain-free and live the life you wan, without depending on pharmaceutical drugs.

Some common pain conditions that he regularly treats are musculoskeletal pain such as sciatica, back pain, joint pain, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, headache and migraine, period pain, digestive pain, chronic pain from accidents, carpal tunnel, neck pain and more.

The health of our skin is important to us, being the most visible and exposed part of our body. As a result, skin conditions can cause significant emotional and physical suffering. While skin conditions have a wide variety of causes, from lifestyle and diet to environment and genetics, they often respond very well to Chinese medicine, particularly herbal medicine and acupuncture.

As always, Chris treats the whole person and finds that by treating the underlying patterns such as digestive problems and excessive inflammation, skin conditions improve, often dramatically.

Some conditions he commonly treats include acne, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, hives and allergic reactions.

Many of us are dealing with anxiety and depression Psychological and mental suffering is epidemic. It is our good fortune that Chinese medicine, which looks at the body and mind as an integrated whole, has a host of tools that can greatly relieve this mental suffering. Qi gong, acupuncture, cupping and moxibustion are all deeply relaxing and consistently balance our mental states. Herbal medicine effectively and efficiently corrects the underlying imbalances that contribute to our mental suffering.

Chris has been effectively treating anxiety, depression and other forms of mental suffering for many years.

Chris often treats women’s issues. These include perimenopause and menopause symptoms as well as menstrual issues including PMS, menstrual mood fluctuations, irregular menstruation, PCOS, fibroids, dysmenorrhea and amenorrhea. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have been safely and effectively treating these conditions and symptoms for millenia. The Chinese medical perspective is that both menstruation and perimenopause/menopause should be minimally disruptive to a woman’s quality of life. Please reach out if you would like to discuss what Chinese medicine can do for you to ease any difficult symptoms you have involving your monthly cycle or transition into menopause.

According to Chinese medicine, the root of health is digestion. Our health depends on strong and efficient digestion and absorption of nutrients along with effective and consistent elimination of waste through urine and stool.

Many of us, however, have poor digestion and elimination. The signs of this are sometimes subtle (such as reduced morning appetite or low energy) or very obvious (like chronic constipation or inflammatory bowel disease). Chinese medicine, especially herbal medicine but also acupuncture, are often very effective at correcting digestion and restoring our ability to breakdown and absorb our food.

Chris commonly treats digestive conditions such as acid reflux, IBS, inflammatory bowel conditions, constipation, diarrhea, loose stools and ulcers.

Respiratory issues are another class of disorders that respond well to Chinese medicine. In the Chinese system of thought, our lungs govern qi or energy, so without proper functioning of our lungs, it is very hard to feel healthy and vital.

Usually, a combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine along with dietary changes is indicated in conditions such as asthma, shortness of breath, chronic colds and repiratory tract infections. Chris is also able to provide support in more serious conditions such as COPD. In all cases, though, improvement or elimination of respiratory symptoms improves vitality and wellbeing.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), the rate of autoimmune disorders continues to increase. Autoimmunity, in which the body’s immune system attacks our own tissue, includes conditions such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Crohn’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis and Grave’s disease. While complex, they often respond well to Chinese herbal medicine along with dietary changes. When there is a stress and emotional component, patients often find acupuncture very supportive.

Many patients with autoimmune conditions find that they are able to reclaim their health and live with a higher level of wellbeing and vitality using the tools and methods of Chinese medicine.

Metabolic disorders such as diabetes and hypothryoidism are becoming more and more common. 1/3 of women will be diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland during their lifetime and rates of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes continue to climb. All of these conditions come with serious effects on the quality of people’s lives, and often lead to other, more serious illnesses down the road.

The great thing about these conditions is that they usually respond well to Chinese medicine as well as lifestyle and dietary changes. Please reach out to discuss treatment options with Chris.
