FAQs

When performed by a licensed practitioner, acupuncture is a very safe, pain-free, effective, treatment for many acute and chronic conditions.

Acupuncture is not painful. Acupuncture is performed with hair-thin needles and patients usually don’t feel them at all. Patients usually experience deep relaxation and often fall asleep during treatment.

Occasionally, bruising can occur. The only other side effect, if we can call it that, is deep relaxation.

This is the million dollar question. The Chinese medical explanation is that by inserting needles into specific points on the meridians (energy lines), we correct imbalances and blockages and put the body into a balanced state. The western medical explanation is that the needles cause the release of endorphins. Whatever mechanism speaks (or doesn’t speak to you), my advice is to just give acupuncture a try. Most people are very pleasantly surprised at how effective it is.

Acupuncture is safe during pregnancy, when performed by a licensed acupuncturist. It is in fact indicated for many problems during pregnancy such as morning sickness, prevention of miscarriage or to induce labour. Acupuncture is also very effective to correct a breech presentation.

Its best to have a light meal before coming in. Please try to not be hungry for your appointment. Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes. After your treatment, its best to stay hydrated and to not do anything too vigorous. You can do normal day to day activities though.

Before you come in, Chris will send you a detailed intake form to fill in. You’ll then have a chat with him and once he’s made his diagnosis, he’ll give you your treatment options and make his recommendations. These vary from patient to patient, but usually include diet, exercise and relaxation ideas. Chris will work with you to implement a plan that both serves and suits your health goals, lifestyle and capabilities.
